Content creation is at the heart of every marketing department, and mapping out a monthly content calendar takes work. From brainstorming campaigns to planning content performance goals, two minutes of content can be the result of two months of work.

With millions of creators and marketers publishing digital content on Issuu every day, we want to help make your planning process as simple as possible. Here are some easy topics to add to your June 2022 content calendar.

Holidays for June 2022

Celebration is an essential part of life, and it should never be absent from your digital marketing presence. Every brand has a community, and yours has an opportunity to shine in those noteworthy moments on the calendar. Here are a few upcoming holidays to map into your content plan.

  • LGBTQ+ Pride Month

  • Global Running Day - June 1

  • National Best Friends Day - June 8

  • Nature Photography Day - June 15

  • Juneteenth - June 19

  • Fathers Day (U.S.) - June 19

  • First Day of Summer/Summer Solstice - June 21

  • International Day of Yoga - June 21

Staycations and Local Summer Activities

As mentioned in last month’s blog of May 2022 content calendar ideas, many people are finalizing their summer plans at the last minute due to ongoing concerns over health and travel restrictions. Some are also avoiding travel altogether and opting to stay local, enjoying their re-opened community instead. If you own a small business or create community-focused content, there are plenty of opportunities to create content that attracts your neighborhood. From a limited-time locals discount to a collaboration with your local Parks and Recreation Department, there’s bound to be plenty of options to promote content through your email newsletters, website, or social media channels.

First Day of Summer and Summer Solstice

In the northern hemisphere, June brings the first official summer day, and there’s no shortage of exciting content surrounding this time of the year. In parts of Europe and Nordic countries, Midsummer is a common celebration when people get together to celebrate by singing, dancing, and adorning themselves in festive summer clothes and floral crowns.

In the Arctic Circle and nearby, the summer solstice comes with one of the most extraordinary natural occurrences: the midnight sun. During these 24-hour stretches of daylight, communities in these regions host celebrations like Finland’s Juhannuspäivä (which translates to Midsummer Day) and The Midnight Sun Festival in Fairbanks, Alaska.

Globally, there’s also a summer solstice tradition of lighting bonfires. Perhaps one of the most breathtaking examples is in the Austrian region of Tyrol, where locals light bonfires on mountaintops. In Spain, The Nit De Sant Joan (or Saint John’s Eve) also leads up to an impressive blaze that attracts visitors from all over the world.

Pride Month

Commemorating the Stonewall Riots in New York in 1969, Pride Month is an important time to celebrate the impact LGBTQ+ people have had on the world. This month is all about equality, affirmation, rights, and visibility. Your company or organization can foster connection and promote equity and inclusion in a variety of creative ways. Be aware that performative allyship is a continuing problem within promotions around traditionally marginalized communities, especially marketing during Pride Month. It’s important to understand how to celebrate authentically and connect to your audience with care.

The Great Outdoors

June is a month that’s usually synonymous with being outside. From backyard barbecues to hiking trips, summer is in full swing, and it’s time to head outdoors. We expect our social media feeds to be flooded with beautiful landscape photography and reminders of how wonderful the weather can be in the warmer months. Capitalize on that with this month’s social media holidays. Get into nature on June 15 during Nature Photography Day, or head to a trail for Global Running Day on June 1.

Community Service and Volunteering

With school out for the summer, there’s extra time to focus on serving the community. Some of your audience is likely to do volunteer work this summer, whether it's a program abroad for college students, families helping out at their local food bank, or a coastal town’s weekend beach cleanup. If you’re a community organizer or nonprofit, this is an ideal time to organize a campaign to bring in volunteers and start building up an online following to attract new donors before the end of the year.

Fathers and Family

In the U.S. and 80+ other countries, Father's Day is celebrated during the third week in June. This is an excellent time to create family-focused content, especially surrounding father figures and the impact they have on our lives. The weekend will also famously drive some retail sales, and it’s a perfect time for an influencer campaign on social media. With the rise of heartwarming personalities like Nick Cho (aka Your Korean Dad), there’s a clear opportunity for collaborations with influencer dads. However, you don’t always need to build a partnership with an influencer; sourcing user-generated content from current customers is an excellent way to find holiday-focused content and promote your brand positively.
